[1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14] Gender Male Biography Rufus Franklin Edmonds was born on March 3, 1919, in Surry County, North Carolina, to Frank Thomas Edmonds and Mary Lela Doby. On the 1920 Census he was less than a year old and lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson, Surry County. On the 1930 Census he was 10 years old and lived with his parents and siblings in Tunstall, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He had attended school and was able to read and write. He registered for the World War II draft on October 16, 1940, in Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina. He enlisted in the United States Army on February 25, 1942, at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. He was assigned to the Signal Corps and served during the World War II campaigns in Rhineland Germany and Central Europe. His final rank was Private First Class. He was discharged on January 30, 1946. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. By May of 1946 he had moved to San Mateo, San Mateo County, California. His marriage to Isabel Purdie was announced in San Mateo on 3 May 1946. Isabel was born in Scotland to James and Isabbella Purdie and immigrated to the United States on July 15, 1928, in New York City. On the 1950 Census Rufus was 30 years old and lived with his wife and daughter in San Mateo. He passed away on January 10, 2005, in Paradise, Butte County, California, and was buried in Paradise Cemetery in Paradise.

[2, 3, 4, 6] Obituary 13 Jan 2005 Mr. Rufus F. Edmonds, 85 of Paradise died on Jan. 10, 2005 after an illness of one week. A native of North Carolina, he was the husband for 58 years of Isabel Edmonds who survives and he was the son of the late Frank T. Edmonds and Lela Doby Edmonds. He was employed in the Bay Area as a construction worker and retired to Paradise, CA in 1998. Rufus was an Army Veteran of World War II where he served in the Signal Corp. overseas. Survivors other than his wife are a son Gary Edmonds, his wife Kelly of Indiana, Grandson, Robert South and Son-in-Law, Gary South of Paradise, a daughter Linda South who predeceased him, three brothers and two sisters also predeceased him. Rufus is survived by many relatives in North Carolina and Alabama. A memorial service will be conducted at Rose Chapel in Paradise on Friday, January 14 at 11am with Rev. Dennis Fullbright of First Christian Church presiding.
